Old School is a modern and minimalistic theme


You will need to do a WordPress installation on your server. There are several ways of doing this. Probably the easiest way is the following:

There are two ways of installing the Theme for your Wordpress installation.

Installation via FTP

Extract the themeforest package you recieved to any folder on your harddrive. The archive contains several folders. You will need to copy the "oldschool" folder which contains the theme data to your wordpress installations theme folder on your server.

Example of a destination folder: http://yourserver/wordpress/wp-content/themes/. The resulting file structure will look like this: http://yourserver/wordpress/wp-content/themes/oldschool/. 

Next go to your WordPress installation admin panel to appearence/themes. You will see the oldschool theme listed along with other themes. Press Activate and the theme will be active in a moment.

Installation directly from your WordPress installation

Go to Appearance/Themes and click on the tab Install Themes. Now click on the upload button and choose the zip called oldschool.zip. After the Theme uploads to the server simply click on Activate and your brand new theme will be ready to use.

To start customizing the theme "Old School" on your own, go to the site administrator page, and in the admin panel find "Appearance - customize."

To set or change the logo or name of the site, as well as specify the file of the site icon - favicon, go to the site administrator page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - customize - Site identity".

To specify which social networks exactly represent the representation of your site, go to the site admin page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - –°ustomize - Social Networks".

You can specify in which area social networking icons should be displayed: the header of the site or the footer. You can display the icons of social networks and there and there. You can also enable support for social networking icons, but by default it is disabled.

 

To go to the settings page of the "Old School" theme, go to the site admin page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - customize - Theme Customizer".

In this panel, you can: change the width of the site, change the style of displaying entries, set options for the sidebar or remove it altogether, and also make the top menu fixed.

The "Old School" theme supports the ability to change the width of the central block with the display of content.

The first option is a block width of 960 pixels for more convenient reading and familiarization with the content, and the second is the classic width of 1100 pixels.

To set the site width, go to the site administrator page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - customize - Theme Customizer - Site Width".

The "Old School" theme supports the ability to change the display styles of posts on the main page, the rubrics page and the search results page.

Total supported 2 styles of conclusions posts: list, and columns. The default is output through the columns.

To change the display styles of posts, go to the site admin page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - customize - Theme Customizer - Post Styles".

The "Old School" theme supports the ability to make the top menu fixed.

To change the settings of the top menu and make it fixed, go to the site admin page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - customize - Theme Customizer - Header Menu".

The "Old School" theme supports the ability to slightly change the display of the block with comments.

For example, you can replace the standard avatar with an SVG icon, or remove the commentator's name-link, and replace it with a simple name (without displaying the link).

Also for the site administrator it is possible to remove the "Edit" link to reduce the load on the server.

But by default, all settings are set so as not to violate the requirements of Envato, in other words, no standard WordPress engine functions were blocked or removed.

To change the settings of the block with comments and make it fixed, go to the site administrator page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - customize - Comments Template Options".

The "Old School" theme supports the ability to add a slider to the main page of the site.

To add a slider and select posts from which categories it will display, go to the site admin page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - customize - Automatron Slider".

Some site owners publish all articles themselves, and do not want the topic to display the same author in all articles and posts.

The "Old School" theme supports the ability to remove the author's name from all articles. By default, the login name of the Site Administrator is displayed.

To remove authorship, go to the site administrator page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - customize - Authorship".

If you want to change the background color of the site, without changing the cascading style sheet file, go to the site administrator page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - Customize - Color".

If you want to set an image instead of the background color, without changing the cascading style sheet file, go to the site admin page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - Customize - Background Image".

The “Old School” theme supports the output of 6 areas for widgets: 2 sidebars and 4 columns for widgets in Footer.

To install the necessary widgets in the desired area, go to the site admin page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - Customize - Widgets".

The Old School theme plugins greatly enhance the theme's capabilities. For example, the plugin "Contact Form" allows you to make a click to send a letter to the site administrator.

In total, we released support for 4 plugins with the theme: contact form, page viewer and posts viewer, "Share on Social Networks" buttons and widgets with popular posts and posts on the first tag, which are displayed only on internal pages.

To install the necessary widgets, go to the site admin page, and in the admin panel, find "Plugins - Add New", and download the desired plugin from the purchased file with the theme.

After installing and activating the plugin, go to the site administrator page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - Customize - Plugin - Contact Form".

Clicking on the plugin will open a panel with a form in which you will need to enter the site administrator's email.

As soon as you enter the email and press the Publish button at the top, the settings will be saved. Now if you click on the email icon at the top of the site, a contact form will open before the site user in which he can easily send a letter to the site administrator.

After installing and activating the plugin, go to the site admin page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - Settings - Plugin - Social Share Buttons".

Clicking on the plugin will open a panel with the names of supported social networks.

All you have to do is tick the social network of interest, and social or social network icons will appear on the article or post pages after the article.

After installing and activating the plugin, go to the site administrator page, and in the admin panel, find "Appearance - Widgets".

Now you have 2 new widget themes: "Old School Popular Posts", and "Old School Posts By Tag", which is very useful for user behavioral factors on the site.

After installing and activating the plugin, nothing is required of you. Now, when you hover over the link, a window will appear with the title of the article and the image of the link to the article to which you hover the cursor.
